Greenwashing, responsabilidad ambiental y huella de carbono: impacto en la productividad del sector industrial en Cúcuta

Esta investigación aborda el problema del greenwashing, una práctica engañosa que algunas empresas emplean para parecer más responsables ambientalmente de lo que realmente son. Frente a este panorama, el objetivo principal de la investigación es examinar el impacto del greenwashing, la responsabilidad ambiental y la huella de carbono en la productividad de las empresas del sector industrial de Cúcuta. Para lograr este fin, se empleó una metodología cuantitativa correlacional, seleccionando una muestra representativa de 420 empresas de las 9364 que conforman el tejido industrial de la ciudad. Este muestreo se realizó con un nivel de confianza del 95% y un margen de error del 5%. El instrumento utilizado para recoger los datos alcanzó un nivel de diligenciamiento del 88,1%. Los resultados del estudio revelaron una correlación negativa moderada (-0,46) entre el greenwashing y la optimización de recursos, sugiriendo que un aumento en las prácticas de greenwashing se asocia con una disminución de la eficiencia en la gestión de recursos. De manera más significativa, se encontró una correlación negativa muy fuerte (-0,95) entre la huella de carbono de las empresas y su rentabilidad, indicando que un incremento en la huella de carbono generalmente resulta en una menor rentabilidad. La conclusión principal destaca la importancia de desarrollar e implementar estrategias que permitan a las empresas equilibrar eficientemente la responsabilidad ambiental con la productividad. Esto no solo mejora su sostenibilidad y rentabilidad a largo plazo, sino que también contribuye positivamente con el bienestar ambiental global.

El objetivo del trabajo de investigación es construir un perfil idóneo para gerentes de producción, con base en la teoría de habilidades gerenciales de Robert Katz. La investigación desglosa estas habilidades en subfactores e indicadores específicos, validando la importancia de manejar habilidades conceptuales, técnicas y humanas, según el nivel de gerencia. Las habilidades técnicas abarcan la administración de producción, el control de calidad y la seguridad industrial; las humanas, el trabajo en equipo, la comunicación efectiva y el liderazgo, y las conceptuales, un enfoque sistémico, la globalización y técnicas avanzadas de administración. Este trabajo identificó la capacitación como un mecanismo clave para mejorar las capacidades gerenciales, contribuyendo al desarrollo competitivo y sirviendo también como base para rediseñar los programas de estudios de ingeniería industrial, dando respuesta a las exigencias de un mercado altamente enfocado en la administración humana y respaldado por tendencias tecnológicas

WhatsApp-based intervention in urban Colombia to support the prevention of arboviral diseases: a feasibility study

Arboviral diseases remain a significant health concern worldwide, with over half the world's population at risk for dengue alone. Without a vaccine or targeted treatment, the most effective strategy of prevention is vector management with community involvement. mHealth interventions, like WhatsApp, offer promising results for engaging communities and promoting healthier behaviors. This study explores the feasibility of integrating WhatsApp in vector control activities to improve arbovirus prevention in Colombia. A mixed-methods approach was employed to assess the WhatsApp-based intervention. WhatsApp messages were sent to 45 community women for 5 weeks to increase their knowledge and practices about dengue, Zika, and chikungunya. Pre-and-post surveys and focus group discussions were conducted in community settings to measure the feasibility and acceptability of this intervention. Chat reviews were done to assess the usability of users. A total of 1566 messages were exchanged in 45 WhatsApp chats. High acceptance and good usability (82% of users used the app for replying) were reported in this study. WhatsApp messages were perceived as short, clear, and enjoyable. Users liked the frequency, and design of messages. Pre- and post-surveys demonstrated improvements in the knowledge and practices of arboviral diseases. The intention to apply this knowledge in practice was reflected in a significant improvement, particularly in cleaning the laundry tank once a week (pre 62.1% to post 89.6%, p < 0.008). This study suggests that using WhatsApp as an additional tool could be a feasible, acceptable, and affordable strategy for improving the adoption of better practices in the prevention of arboviral diseases.

Aedes aegypti control in breeding sites through an insecticidal coating with dual effect: Laboratory trials and safety assessment

Ground water tanks are known to be preferred Aedes aegypti oviposition places providing opportunities for adult and larvae control. Therefore, a dual-effect insecticidal coating (IC) (alphacypermethrin/ pyriproxyfen) with a slow-release mechanism and safe for users could be applied within Aedes spp. breeding sites, representing a promising option. Bioassays were designed to determine the mortality and sterilizing effects on gravid mosquitoes exposed to IC. The effect of inhibition of emergence was evaluated in eggs, larvae and pupae exposed in different containers. For the water safety assessment concentrations of active ingredients were determined by reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and the health risk was calculated. The IC applied to the interior walls of water-holding containers showed efficacy against Ae. aegypti in terms of high gravid-female mortality (81% at 24 h, p < 0.01), sterilizing effect (inhibition of oviposition by 63%, p < 0.01) and emergence inhibition (100% in eggs, L3 and L4; 97% in pupae). The offspring rate was reduced [only 0.15 (38/250) new adults emerged per exposed gravid females as against 11.90 per unexposed female (2976/250) at baseline]. Emergence inhibition was recorded up to 12 months and adult mortality >80% up to 6 months. The use of water stored in treated containers, either for washing or drinking, is not expected to pose a health risk to users. IC applied to domestic water containers has dual and complementary action that reduces Ae. aegypti densities (immature and adult stages). This represents baseline information for a cluster randomized efficacy trial in Colombia.

Explainability Analysis of the Evaluation Model of the Level of Digital Transformation in MSMEs based on Fuzzy Cognitive Maps

the concept of digital transformation involves exploiting digital technologies to generate new ways of doing things in organizations, including the creation of new processes, models, and services that produce value based on the digitization of data and processes. The application of digital technologies enables organizations to develop capabilities for innovation, automation, etc., utilizing both established and emerging technologies, including the widespread use of artificial intelligence. This article proposes the implementation of Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (FCMs) based on experts and data for the evaluation of the level of digital transformation in MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises). Additionally, this work carries out an explainability analysis of the evaluation models based on FCMs. The main digital transformation variables used to define our FCMs were classified into five groups, based on the COBIT standard: i) Organization and Culture variables related to strategies, way of working, and ecosystems, ii) Customer variables related to services and digital channels and products, iii) Operations and Internal Processes variables related to supply chain, suppliers, and business model, iv) Information Technologies variables related to innovation, digitization, data and analytic. Finally, the fifth type of variable is the target, which indicates the level of digital transformation of the organization. Our model managed to specify with 99.4% the level of digital transformation of the organization. Furthermore, the explanatory capacity of the FCMs developed in this work was explored using different explainability methods, some general and others specific to the FCMs. In general, the results obtained in the work are very encouraging since the quality metrics obtained with the evaluation models are very good, almost always higher than 90%; and the explanations obtained with the explainability methods allow for an in-depth analysis of the behavior of the variables in the results obtained, something very important to understand how to improve the levels of digital transformation in organizations.

Thermoeconomic analysis for hybrid solar Brayton cycles operating with different working fluids

A Brayton cycle analysis with regeneration fed by heat input from a central concentration solar energy tower and a combustion chamber that uses natural gas is presented. The thermodynamic model includes the irreversibility of the different components of a conventional Brayton cycle system and a solar concentration system through energy and exergy considerations. The environmental conditions of Barranquilla are used for the plant analysis using different working fluids throughout the day, where the carbon dioxide cycle presents an overall efficiency of 28.8 %, the cycle with air efficiency is 26.6 %, and the Helium cycle is 20.2 %. The model considers the energy flows within the plant and the exergy destruction. In this sense, the solar concentration system contributes an energy fraction of 0.209 when operating with air, while the exergy destruction fraction is 0.189 when operating with carbon dioxide when solar radiation is maximum. Finally, an estimation of the Levelized Cost of Energy is presented.

Optimization of phycobiliprotein biosynthesis in thermotolerant cyanobacteria through light parameter adjustment

This study addressed the optimization of biomass and C-phycocyanin (C-PC) concentration and its purity in the thermotolerant cyanobacterium Potamosiphon sp by adjusting key light quality parameters. Custom design and Central Composite Design experimental designs were employed, using LEDs light intensity, wavelength, and photoperiod. The results demonstrated that these lighting parameters significantly influence biomass and Cphycocyanin production, achieving up to a 100 % increase in phycocyanin accumulation and biomass production and a 50 % improvement in purity index compared to conventional white light under optimal conditions of Red: Blue light (3:1), Intensity (283 μmol m− 2 s 21), and photoperiod (17.8 H light). The findings support the use of specific LEDs wavelengths that optimize the performance of production processes and the quality of products derived from cyanobacteria, such as high-value phycobiliproteins

Uso de efluentes mineros para la producción de colorantes a base de algas

En esta investigación se utilizó un efluente minero para producir biomasa microalgal y cianobacterial para la obtención de pigmentos rojos (carotenoides) y azules (ficocianina). Se aislaron dos cepas de una fuente hidrotermal de Norte de Santander y se cultivaron en aguas residuales mineras mezcladas al 50% con medio BG-11 para la cianobacteria Osci_UFPS01 y al 50% con medio Bold Basal para la microalga Chlo_UFPS01. Se desarrolló un diseño experimental de carbono, nitrógeno y fósforo, y posteriormente se utilizó el análisis de superficie de respuesta (RSM) para determinar las condiciones de operación óptimas para la formación de los productos de interés. Se observó una notable disminución de la producción de pigmentos en comparación con la de los controles sin aguas residuales mineras. En conjunto, se obtuvo un 45% de ficocianina (C PC) por unidad de peso seco (PS) y un 1.129% (p/p) de carotenoides en los cultivos con mezcla de aguas residuales mineras en los procesos finales de optimización.

Efectos de dos herbicidas orgánicos sobre la fisiología de la germinación en Coffea arabica

Los herbicidas son productos químicos ampliamente utilizados en la agricultura, sin embargo, a largo plazo podrían tener incidencia en el crecimiento de algunos cultivos. Es por ello que el objetivo de esta investigación consistió en evaluar el efecto de extractos orgánicos a base de aloína y de bulbos de Allium sativum en el proceso de germinación de Coffea arábica L. Se realizaron cuatro experimentos por triplicado de aloína, ajo y un herbicida en dosis de 0,1, 0,5 y 1,0 mg/litro, además de agua como control positivo. Como resultado, se observó una variación en la germinación con los tratamientos aplicados de aloína y Allium sativum, a diferencia del Paraquat, el cual ocasionó necrosis radicular en la semilla debido a la contaminación. En el tratamiento realizado con aloína de 0,1 mg/l se presentó una germinación del 85,7 % con respecto al control positivo; con el tratamiento de 0,5 mg/l, el rendimiento fue del 100 % comparado con el control positivo; diferente al proceso de germinación realizado con 1,0 mg/l de aloína, el cual obtuvo una germinación del 53,3 %; en cuanto Allium sativum, se logró un rendimiento del 9,6 % de germinación del 100 % en el tratamiento aplicado del 0,5 y del 86,4 % con el tratamiento de 1 mg/l. En relación con el herbicida Paraquat, este presentó una germinación de tan solo el 20 %. Finalmente, se determinó que los extractos orgánicos de aloína y Allium sativum no ejercen una influencia negativa en la geminación de Coffea arabica, comparados con el Paraquat.

Efecto antimicrobiano de los extractos polifenolicos presentes en ananas comosus

Introducción: La utilización de antimicrobianos es un desafío permanente ya que se enfrenta en todo momento a la capacidad de las bacterias para desarrollar mecanismos de resistencia. Objetivo: el objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto antimicrobiano de los extractos polifenolicos presentes en la corona Ananas comosus. Materiales y Métodos: se recolectaron 3,5 kg de hojas de coronas de piña Ananas comosus para ello se llevaron a un secador de charolas, para reducir humedad, posteriormente, se realizó la molienda hasta obtener una harina fina, para el proceso de extracción del extracto oleaginoso se utilizó un equipo Soxhlet utilizando etanol al 70 % como solvente, la identificación de compuestos fenólicos se realizó por cromatografía líquida de ultra-alta resolución con detector de masas Orbitrap,el análisis microbiológico se evaluó mediante el método estandarizado de difusión con discos utilizando agar Mueller-Hinton, para lo cual se utilizo la cepa Staphylococcus aureus (ATCC 25923), utilizando como control positivo oxacilina y como control negativo (DMSO). Resultados: del secado obtenido se disminuyó la humedad en 50 %, con el cual la materia seca obtenida fue molida y utilizada para realizar el proceso de extracción del extracto oleaginoso obteniendo 63ml del cual se identificaron de 27 compuestos fenólicos. En cuanto al análisis microbiológico realizado, se observaron halos de inhibición variables entre 4,5 mm y 6,0 mm. Conclusión: finalmente se concluyó que los polifenoles presentes en el extracto de Ananas comosus presentaron actividad antibacteriana en Staphylococcus aureus observándose mayor efecto de inhibición al aplicar de mayor concentración del extracto

Efecto Genotoxico De La Aloina En Linfocitos Humanos

La aloína es una sustancia presente en el gel de aloe, con gran utilidad en agricultura, el objetivo del trabajo fue evaluar el efecto genotoxico de la Aloína en linfocitos humanos como componente principal de un bioinsecticida. La metodología del proyecto consistió en la extracción de aloína en las hojas de Aloe vera, se realizaron tratamientos a concentraciones de aloína de 1,0%, 1,5% y 2,0%, los cuales fueron expuestos en linfocitos humanos, posterior a ello, se realizó un proceso de electroforesis utilizando el ensayo cometa, las imágenes fueron capturadas mediante microscopio optika pro view y analizadas en el software Comet score, teniendo en cuenta la longitud de la cola y porcentaje de ADN, como resultado se obtuvo mayor daño en los tratamientos de concentraciones de 1,5% y 2,0%. Con lo cual se concluyó que la exposición a concentraciones altas de aloína es un factor clave para el daño en linfocitos humanos

Harina de hoja de bore -Alocasia macrorrhiza- como materia prima en el balanceado para pollos de engorde

suplemento en la alimentación de monogástricos, permitiendo obtener índices productivos favorables respecto a los sistemas de alimentación basados únicamente en balanceados comerciales. Objetivo. La presente investigación buscó evaluar el efectode la inclusión del forraje de harina de hoja de Bore al 0, 2, 4 y 8% en el balanceado suministrado a pollos machos y hembras de la línea ROSS 308 durante la etapa de finalización (día 31 a 42) sobre el desempeño productivo y la sobrevivencia del animal.Metodología. El estudio se realizó en la finca San Pablo de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander en el corregimiento El Diamante, municipio de Chinácota, Norte de Santander. Se utilizaron 120 pollos ROSS-308 (60 hembras y 60 machos) analizando el consumo de alimento (ca), peso vivo inicial (PVI) y final (PVF), ganancia de peso (GP), conversión alimenticia (CA), rendimiento en canal (RC) y peso de menudencias (PM).Se implementó un modelo factorial A*B (sexo del ave; nivel inclusión de harina). Resultados. No se presentó mortalidad en las aves. Las hembras presentaron el menor PVI y PVF, ca, CA y PM; la GP y el RC fue homogéneo entre machos y hembras. Se evidenciaron diferencias significativas en el PVF, GP y la CA según el nivel de inclusión en la dieta, registrándose los mejores resultados con bajas inclusiones de harina de hoja de bore. Conclusión. Se concluye que se podría incluir hasta un 4% de harina de hoja de Bore en la dieta, obteniendo resultados similares al grupo testigo; utilizando dietas con un máximo de 2% de la harina, los machos podrían presentar mejores resultados respecto a las hembras

Diseño de experimentos agrícolas como proyectos de aula implementados en el proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje

En la actualidad persiste la necesidad de implementar estrategias que permitan combinar la teoría con la práctica, trascender de la clase magistral y lograr que el estudiante comprenda la utilidad del conocimiento adquirido. Una alternativa son los proyectos de aula que permiten la inclusión de la formación investigativa, la generación de espacios de dialogo y el trabajo en equipo. En este documento se socializa la experiencia de haber implementado proyectos de aula que consistían en el desarrollo de experimentos en condiciones de módulos didácticos aplicando la temática de la asignatura de Diseño Experimental del programa Ingeniería Pecuaria e Ingeniería Agronómica de la Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander Cúcuta. Se resaltan algunos de los proyectos exitosos y no viables, el análisis de los datos registrados a partir del experimento más representativo (módulo de un cultivo de arroz en bloques al azar balanceado) y finalmente el análisis de la percepción de algunos de los estudiantes que participaron en los proyectos. Los resultados son prometedores para continuar implementando esta estrategia didáctica en los procesos de enseñanza.

Nonlinear regression for the characterization of peristaltic pumps, an alternative in the control of biological fluids

This paper presents a modeling approach to characterize two peristaltic pumps using nonlinear regression. Accuracy tests were performed by varying the height level of the pump with respect to the vessel, and it was found to have no effect on the flow rate. Filling data was recorded for 300 ml considering the voltage applied to the pumps and the filling time. A least squares curve fitting was performed with the recorded data. The exponential model was determined to be the most accurate for the two pumps, and using a simple rule of three, the equation for each desired volume was found. Finally, filling tests were performed to compare the model data with the real data. The coefficient of determination of the model for the first pump was 0.9875 and for the second pump was 0.9956. It can be concluded that the models are accurate, which is also confirmed in the comparative filling tests, where an assertiveness of more than 99% was demonstrated in all the tests performed. It is proposed to extend the studies on the use of this mathematical method as an alternative in the non-invasive control of fluids whose instruments must be handled in a sterile manner.

Influence of Critical Parameters on the Extraction of Concentrated C-PE from Thermotolerant Cyanobacteria

This work aimed to identify the influence of pH, molarity, w/v fraction, extraction time, agitation, and either a sodium (Na2HPO4 ·7H2O-NaH2PO4 ·H2O) or potassium buffer (K2HPO4 -KH2PO4 ) used in the extraction of C-phycoerythrin (C-PE) from a thermotolerant strain of Potamosiphon sp. An experimental design (Minimum Run Resolution V Factorial Design) and a Central Composite Design (CCD) were used. According to the statistical results of the first design, the K-PO4 buffer, pH, molarity, and w/v fraction are vital factors that enhance the extractability of C-PE. The construction of a CCD design of the experiments suggests that the potassium phosphate buffer at pH 5.8, longer extraction times (50 min), and minimal extraction speed (1000 rpm) are ideal for maximizing C-PE concentration, while purity is unaffected by the design conditions. This optimization improves extraction yields and maintains the desired bright purple color of the phycobiliprotein

Production of industrial-interest colorants in microalgae and cyanobacteria: leveraging nutrient dynamics and photoperiod optimization

The exploration of the biodiversity of cyanobacteria and microalgae holds great promise for obtaining pigments of industrial interest. This study focused on the bioprospecting of these organisms to obtain pigments of industrial interest together with enriched biomass. We investigated the impact of photoperiod and concentration of C/N/P nutrient sources in heterotrophic cultures, controlling specific variables such as light intensity, volume, pH, temperature, air flow and time to produce phycobiliproteins in Arthrospira platensis UTEX1926 and total carotenoids in Scenedesmus sp. using a nonfactorial Plackett‒Burman design in STATISTICA 7.0 software. The biomass concentration was determined by dry weight, while the concentrations of phycocyanin and carotenoids were determined spectrophotometrically at specific wavelengths. Heterotrophic cultures demonstrated superior productivity, with phycocyanin and carotenoids achieving percentages of 7% and 0.4% (w/w), respectively, and an R2 value of 0.99. Among the influential parameters, potassium diphosphate and sodium bicarbonate played pivotal roles in the final deposition of carotenoids and phycocyanin, respectively, yielding concentrations of 96.5 mg/L phycocyanin and 6.5 mg/L carotenoids

Use of mining effluents for the production of algal-based colorants

In this research, a mining effluent was used to produce microalgal and cyanobacterial bio-mass to obtain red (carotenoids) and blue pigments (phycocyanin). Two strains were isolated from a hydrothermal source in Norte de Santander and grown in mining wastewater mixed with 50% BG-11 medium for the Osci_UFPS01 cyanobacterium and 50% with Bold Basal me-dium for the Chlo_UFPS01 microalgae. A carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus experiment de-sign was developed, and subsequent response surface analysis (RSM) was used to determine the optimal operating conditions for the formation of the products of interest. A notable de-crease in pigment production was observed compared to that in the controls without mining wastewater. Overall, 45% of phycocyanin (C PC) per unit dry weight (DW) and 1,129% (w/w) of carotenoids were obtained in the cultures with a mining wastewater mixture in the final optimization processes
