dc.description.abstract | El objetivo de esta investigación es describir las percepciones de un grupo de estudiantes universitarios de pregrado frente al dominio del inglés en relación con su proyecto de vida. La metodología es de paradigma empírico-analítico, con enfoque cualitativo de nivel descriptivo y con diseño no experimental-transeccional. El instrumento utilizado es un cuestionario tipo Likert con 34 preguntas, aplicado a 683 estudiantes de pregrado de una universidad pública de la ciudad de Cúcuta en Colombia. Los datos se analizan a través de procedimientos de estadística descriptiva. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes universitarios manifiestan una percepción generalmente favorable hacía el aprendizaje del inglés, y lo asocian de manera directa con su proyecto de vida profesional, laboral y, particularmente, personal. dc.description.abstract | The primary objective of this research study is to describe undergraduate students’ perceptions of their English proficiency in connection with their personal life projects. The methodology applies an empiricalanalytical paradigm. The approach is qualitative at a descriptive level and the design is non-experimentaltransectional. The data collection instrument used is a Likert-type questionnaire with 34 questions applied to 683 undergraduate students at a public university from the city of Cúcuta in Colombia. Data are analyzed through descriptive statistical procedures. The results show that university students have, in general, a favorable perception of learning English. They link it directly with their professional life projects, their jobs, and, in particular, with their personal life projects. It is concluded that undergraduate students’ motives to learn English comprise a wide variety of future scenarios, including access to better job opportunities, socializing in multicultural spaces, travelling abroad, and migrating. | eng |
