dc.description.abstract | General properties of clays from Ceramica Murano Mine, in the municipality of El Zulia, Norte de Santander, have been investigated. Five clay samples were collected from different mantles of the mine. All the samples were characterized using chemical and mineralogical analysis, as well as physical properties like particle size, plasticity, drying and firing shrinkage and water absorption capacity. The chemical and mineralogical results indicated that all samples contained different amount of kaolinite and quartz, followed by hematite and anatase. Low amounts of muscovite were found mainly in samples F2 and F5. These clays are suitable for use as a raw material in creating ceramic construction products, especially for the manufacture of roof tiles and bricks according to the Winkler methodology. The variations found in the characterization of the raw material influence the technological properties of the ceramic that can be obtained from the clays under study. | eng |
dc.description.abstract | Se evaluaron propiedades generales de arcillas de la Mina Cerámica Murano, ubicada en el municipio de El Zulia, Norte de Santander.
Cinco muestras de arcilla fueron recolectadas de diferentes mantos de la mina. Todas las muestras se caracterizaron mediante análisis
químico, mineralógico, y propiedades físicas como tamaño de partícula, plasticidad, secado, pérdidas por calcinación y capacidad de
absorción de agua. Los resultados indicaron que las muestras contenían diferentes cantidades de caolinita, cuarzo, hematita y anatasa. Se
encontraron bajas cantidades de moscovita principalmente en las muestras F2 y F5. Estas arcillas son adecuadas para su uso como materia
prima en la elaboración de productos cerámicos de construcción, especialmente para la fabricación de tejas y ladrillos según la metodología
de Winkler. Las variaciones encontradas en la caracterización de la materia prima influyen en las propiedades tecnológicas de la cerámica
que se puede obtener de las arcillas objeto de estudio. | spa |
