This text addresses the phenomenon of migration of the Venezuelan population to Colombia from the narratives of inhabitants of the border area of the Corregimiento de la Parada, located in the city of Cúcuta. Through these narratives the researchers show the atavistic imaginaries about the Venezuelan migrant through fivecategories: "the borders", "friend/enemy", "good/bad", "scapegoat", "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth". An interpretative methodology is used, taking symbolic interactionism as a reference, insofar as it allows us to understand the process of creation and assignment of meanings by the residents of this area. The results show violence as a method to justify xenophobic attitudes against Venezuelan migrants.

The pandemic marked society and, therefore, educational institutions, since preventive measures revealed large gaps and differences, and led to rethink the role of the school today, to rethink its constitution and redirect its actions towards a renewed entity, with new positions, new approaches and commitments, in order to respond to current needs and, even more so, to serve students with disabilities. This paper represents a research advance in which an analysis is made of the perspective, policies and strategies that the University of Guadalajara implements to guarantee inclusive education, and some of the effects generated in higher education students as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic; in particular, emphasis is placed on the effects that the situation has had on students with disabilities. For this research, some interviews were conducted with blind students from the same institution, in order to learn about their experiences during the health emergency.

This research reports the effects derived from the application of mathematical modelling in classroom work within the development of mathematics classes, which allowed the resignification of the concept of linear function, making use of various semiotic registers of representation applied to a wide range of everyday situations. The fieldwork was based on the application of a didactic sequence to two groups of ninth grade students from a public educational institution located in the capital city of northeastern Colombia. The students were expected to build a mathematical model that would fit the data provided framed in the situations in context in order to contribute to the re-signification of mathematical knowledge. The results show that the practice of modelling favours the motivation of students in relation to mathematical knowledge, giving it meaning and significance when confronted with real situations.

To address subjective aspects about before, during and afterthe practice, a non-participant observation guide and a student questionnaire were used as instruments. The results allowed recovering the contributions in two constructs: the theoretical meaning and the formative meaning. Here we present the analysis of the formative meaning that contemplates the subcategories of New Forms of Pedagogical Relationship (NFRP) articulated to critical dialogicity and Collaborative Work (CT) and derived from it, the importance of enhancing the formative nature of research.

This research article shows a broad analysis of the situation of migrants in the city of Cúcuta - Norte de Santander (Colombia) and the representations that the receiving citizens have in this border context. The methodological approach of this study was framed from the qualitative-hermeneutic paradigm where the life story was used as a basis for collecting information. The results of the research show that the discourses of the subjects under study legitimise violent actions towards the Venezuelan migrant population. Furthermore, it shows that in the border municipalities, residents naturalise the current situation, to the extent that it seems that the events that occur in this border context are isolated from the reality of those who do not migrate, describing them as "something normal".

Gatekeepers Training (GKT) is one of the most widely used and disseminated programs worldwide to train personnel in suicide prevention. The purpose of the program is to acquire the necessary skills and competencies to detect psychoemotional and mental health problems that could lead to self-destructive behaviors. In this research work, the level of risk related to suicide was evaluated by means of the ISO-30 psychometric test in high school students, then the effectiveness of a gatekeeper training program applied in the Tepatitlan Regional Preparatory School (TRPS) andsome of its modules was evaluated. The results of the ISO-30 psychometry showed that 64.5% of the students evaluated have a high-riskfactor for suicide related to the inability to cope with emotions. In addition to the above, a statistically significant difference was found (Mann-Whitney U Statistics = 4322.000; p0.001) in the level of competence of the participants in relation to a pre-training evaluation.It is important to note that the effect of the difference found is strong (Rosenthal’sr=0.67) so it is concluded that the GKT drastically improved the skills and competencies of the participants.

The geospatial distribution of pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB) morbidity in the municipality of Cucuta in 2019 and 2020 was described by the Kulldorff method using the geographic location and reporting date of incident TB cases. The unit of analysis was the event reported to the National Epidemiological Surveillance System (SIVIGILA). A total of 607 cases were identified in 392 neighborhoods distributed in ten communes. Most cases of pulmonary TB were reported in the northern commune, with the El Salado neighborhood being the most affected repeatedly. Incident cases of extrapulmonary TB did not show patterns of repetition in the distribution between spatial and temporal units. Strategies to mitigate and control the spread of pulmonary infection should prioritize the western region.

This research attempted to determine the efficacy of the tetrazolium test in the evaluation of the seed viability of two varieties of Coffea arabica L. (‘Castillo’ and ‘Cenicafé’). The fruits were obtained from crops located in the municipalities of Salazar de las Palmas and Arboledas (Norte de Santander - Colombia). The test was carried out with embryos manually extracted from the seeds using tweezers. Three pretreatments were established: distilled water, sodium hypochlorite (2.5 %), sucrose (10 %), and a control (no pretreatment). Embryos were placed in a cysteine solution (0.5 %) to prevent oxidation, then immersed in tetrazolium solutions with concentrations of 0.035 %, 0.075 %, and 0.1 % for a period of 6, 9, and 12 hours in darkness. The results of the viability test were validated with seed germination, using the wet paper towel method in darkness. The best viability percentages were found with the application of sodium hypochlorite (NaClO 2.5 %), with a high correlation with the germination percentage. The use of pretreatments improved the efficiency of the viability test and allowed the use of low concentrations of the reagent (0.035 %), giving the farmer a quick and less expensive alternative to determine germination capacity.

The production of biofuels using wastewater as a microalgae culture medium is a little explored technology, but with potential for success. In order to contribute to the knowledge of these technologies and their technical feasibility for microalgae growth, in this work the Chlorella sp. strain was cultivated in two types of effluents generated in an experimental farm located in eastern Colombia, before and after a biological treatment process. The consumption of the main nutrients that regulate growth and lipid production was evaluated, in order to extract, quantify, characterize and convert them into biodiesel. The results showed that Chlorella sp. growth and lipid production is more favourable in R2 medium of treated water than in R1 medium of raw water, mainly due to phosphorus limitation and higher N-NO3 concentration in R2 compared to R1. In the R2 medium culture, a percentage of 42.54% of long-chain fatty acids was found, which is necessary to obtain a high quality biodiesel. Finally, the best transesterification experiment allowed reaching a fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) percentage of 90.1 ± 2.7%. In general, the results demonstrated the potential viability of using the wastewater generated in the San Pablo farm to produce biomass with lipid content to obtain biodiesel, finding that where the concentration of nutrients, mainly nitrogen, has a great influence on the microalgal metabolism for lipid accumulation.

In the present study, the conditions for an autotrophic and mixotrophic culture of Scenedesmus sp were established. Effluents from acidic coal mine drains were used to study biomass and carotenoid production, both under autotrophic and mixotrophic conditions in relation to the effect of different sources of nitrogen: sodium nitrate, urea and ammonium phosphate. Pollutant removal was determined, such as COD, TOC, heavy metals, ions and total suspended solids. Batch cultures lasted nine days and biomass production, carotenoids and pollutant removal were compared in each condition. The highest biomass concentration reached was 1.2 g/L in the mixotrophic culture with urea, followed by the culture with sodium nitrate of 0.9 g/L in a C/N ratio of 6:1. The highest carotenoid specific concentration was reached in the mixotrophic culture with sodium nitrate, 19.43 mg carotenoids /g biomass. The culture with ammonium phosphate was found to be inhibitory for the growth of the microalgae with the lowest results of all the parameters except for the autotrophic culture where the concentration of carotenoids was very similar to those reached with sodium nitrate and urea. Finally, the mixotrophic culture with urea presented the highest removal percentages, being 86.97% for total iron, 58.29% for chlorides and 92.5% for COD.

Los procesos basados en ozono hacen parte de los Procesos Avanzados de Oxidación que se han aplicado sobre los lixiviados de rellenos sanitarios. Las características altamente tóxicas de los lixiviados de rellenos sanitarios, pueden reducirse por medio de los procesos basados en ozono, los cuales han demostrado alcanzar altas remociones de contaminantes, en especial, de compuestos orgánicos recalcitrantes. En esta revisión se compila información reciente (2015 a 2021) referente a los procesos basados en ozono, donde se ha estudiado la eficacia como tratamiento, se analiza las condiciones óptimas de acuerdo al tipo de lixiviado y al método de tratamiento a emplear. Se identifica la tendencia de implementación como pretratamiento y postratamiento acoplado a procesos convencionales.

Las microalgas y cianobacterias son la nueva plataforma biotecnológica par la producción de diversos metabolitos de interés industrial como carbohidratos, proteínas, lípidos, carotenoides e incluso metabolitos menos comunes como lo son los hidrocarburos y los exopolisacaridos. Una de las especies con la capacidad de producir un amplio espectro de metabolitos es Botryococcus braunii. Esta alga verde colonial posee la peculiaridad de sintetizar hidrocarburos, Exopolisacáridos y otros metabolitos. La presente contribución presenta un panorama bibliométrico de la investigación mundial sobre la producción de B. braunii y sus principales metabolitos de interés para procesos industriales. Los datos de publicaciones científicas durante los últimos 21 años (2000-2021) se obtuvieron de la base de datos SCOPUS© y se filtraron mediante una estrategia de búsqueda sistemática. A partir del análisis se obtuvo un total de 675 documentos científicos enfocados en el aislamiento, producción y mejoramiento de cepas pertenecientes a la especie Botryococcus braunii. De acuerdo con la información obtenida la mayor cantidad de trabajos publicados se han enfocado en la producción y mejoramiento de hidrocarburos tanto para la obtención de biocombustibles. Los principales países que mas han aportado a la investigación de esta especie son Estados Unidos, Japón, China e India; Sin embargo países con alta concentración de biodiversidad como Colombia presentan pocos trabajos con cepas aisladas dentro del territorio nacional. Este análisis bibliométrico permite evidenciar el alto grado de desarrollo obtenido en los últimos 20 años para generar plataformas biotecnológicas para la obtención de. nuevas materias primas para diferentes sectores industriales.

Removal of Nutrients and Pesticides from Agricultural Runoff Using Microalgae and Cyanobacteria

The use of pesticides in agriculture has ensured the production of different crops. However, pesticides have become an emerging public health problem for Latin American countries due to their excessive use, inadequate application, toxic characteristics, and minimal residue control. The current project evaluates the ability of two strains of algae (Chlorella and Scenedesmus sp.) and one cyanobacteria (Hapalosyphon sp.) to remove excess pesticides and other nutrients present in runoff water from rice production. Different concentrations of wastewater and carbon sources (Na2CO3 and NaHCO3 ) were evaluated. According to the results, all three strains can be grown in wastewater without dilution (100%), with a biomass concentration comparable to a synthetic medium. All three strains significantly reduced the concentration of NO3 and PO4 (95 and 85%, respectively), with no difference between Na2CO3 or NaHCO3 . Finally, Chlorella sp. obtained the highest removal efficiency of the pesticide (Chlorpyrifos), followed by Scenedesmus and Hapalosyphon sp. (100, 75, and 50%, respectively). This work shows that it is possible to use this type of waste as an alternative source of nutrients to obtain biomass and metabolites of interest, such as lipids and carbohydrates, to produce biofuels.

The estimation of the green and blue water footprint in the production of organic sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum)wasobtainedforaplantingareaof621.5hectaresintheAmaimeriverbasininValledelCauca,Colombia.Thestudyrepresents the first approximation in the quantification of the theoretical amount of water required by growers toproduce sugarcane under organic planting conditions, based on the methodological guidelines proposed in the WaterFootprintEvaluationManualoftheauthorsArjenandHoekstraetal,(2011), andthecomputerprogramCROPWAT8.0 of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). The results for the green water footprintyielded an indicator of 117.07 m3/t, and 37.44 m3/t for the blue water footprint, for a total water footprint of 154.51m3/t. The obtained data were analyzed comparatively with results from the literature about the traditional cultivationof sugarcane in Colombia, and international references for the same crop, so that the cultivation of organic sugarcanecould present competitive advantages in environmental terms, associated with the use of water resources and contextconditions. Physics includes the study and investigation of the phases that make up the hydrological cycle, including the estimation of flow rates in river basins, most of which are not instrumented, i.e., they lack historical records of circulating flows. For this situation, the application of hydrological models can allow flow estimates to be made. In the Department of Norte de Santander, Colombia, some watersheds do not have instrumentation for flow measurement or hydrological modeling methodologies appropriate to the site. Therefore, methods such as the modified rational model of Teméz are used, even without knowing the relevance of its applicability to the site conditions. Consequently, for the present research, the Teméz model was validated in watersheds of the Norte de Santander Department to estimate the values of extreme flows with a return period of 100 years. In this sense, 11 watersheds were selected, which contained historical rainfall data greater than 20 years and a drainage network of fewer than 1000 Km2. It was found that the Teméz model overestimates the real flows of the 11 hydrological basins, where the climatological parameters used in the application of the Fhrüling factor and its statistical verification using multivariate regression did not achieve an acceptable correlation.

This study aims to strengthen critical thinking in future engineers through mathematics by stimulating their attitudes. To achieve this, a qualitative informative study will be conducted with a characteristic cut and a deductive orientation through the analysis and synthesis of contents from scientific publications specializing in the development of critical thinking. This type of thinking can be strengthened through strategies proposed by the mathematics teacher, allowing an increase in curiosity, eagerness to learn and inquire, and especially promoting and awakening curiosity in students through contexts where mathematics is formally applied in engineering. These strategies should include concrete actions that foster attitudes of critical thinking and a better ability to argue, interpret, and make judgments independently, ultimately acquiring a set of skills, especially in problem-solving. The results show that an engineering student as a critical thinker must have a critical attitude, which is evidenced through dispositions, habits, and character traits, which, when stimulated through mathematics, would contribute to their professional formation.

El tratamiento de lixiviados de rellenos sanitarios requiere de procesos que permitan la remoción eficaz de los diferentes contaminantes presentes en este tipo de residuos líquidos. Para el tratamiento de este tipo de residuos se han empleado una gran diversidad de procesos biológicos, los cuales aprovechan la capacidad de transformar los diferentes componentes del medio liquido en biomasa, sin embargo, estos procesos poseen limitaciones debido a las características intrínsecas del lixiviado. En los últimos años se ha impulsado la integración de los procesos biológicos con los Procesos Avanzados de Oxidación, lo cual permitiría reducir significativamente las características toxicas de estos residuos para así cumplir con las condiciones legales para ser vertidos al ambiente sin que se produzcan daños. En la presente revisión se investigan los trabajos recientes (2015 a 2021) referentes al tratamiento biológico y con procesos Avanzados de Oxidación (basados en ozono, procesos electroquímicos y fotocatálisis). Estos procesos se analizan en combinación, para describir las condiciones óptimas en las que se reducen las cargas contaminantes de los lixiviados de rellenos sanitarios. Finalmente es posible identificar que los procesos de tratamiento en estudio son tecnologías que pueden ser acopladas, registrando mayor eficacia y menor generación de subproductos de desecho o lodos

Shortage of water availability and awareness of the need for sustainable resource management have generated a significant increase in the use of recycled water for irrigation and processing of crops and harvest products, respectively. As a result, irrigation systems face the challenge of neutralizing plant pathogens to reduce the risk of their dispersal and the subsequent occurrence of diseases with potentially high economic impacts. We evaluated the efficacy of an innovative electrolytic disinfection system based on potassium hypochlorite (KCLO) to inactivate major pathogens in hydroponically grown tomatoes: Fusarium oxysporum (Synder and Hans), Rizocthonia solani (Kühn), Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV). The electrolytically derived disinfectant was prepared on-site and added to the recirculating fertigation solution once a week for 60 min in an automated manner using sensor technology at a dosage of 0.5 mg of free chlorine/L (fertigation solution at pH 6.0 ± 0.3 and ORP 780 ± 31 mV). Tomato fruit yield and pathogen dispersal were determined for 16 weeks. At the applied dosage, the disinfectant has been shown to inhibit the spread of plant pathogenic fungi and, remarkably, plant viruses in recirculating fertigation solutions. Phytotoxic effects did not occur.

Valoración morfológica de la ubre y su relación con los rasgos morfométricos corporales de la cabra criolla Motilona de Norte de Santander, Colombia

Se determinó la relación existente entre la estructura morfológica de la glándula mamaria y los rasgos morfométricos corporales de 266 cabras criollas Motilona de la región Norte de Santander (Colombia) pertenecientes a sistemas orientados a la producción de leche y carne. Se evaluaron características morfológicas de la glándula mamaria como: vista lateral y posterior de las extremidades posteriores, inserción anterior y profundidad de la ubre, altura y anchura de inserción posterior de la ubre, ligamento suspensor, diámetro e implantación de los pezones. Los rasgos morfométricos corporales evaluados corresponden a la longitud de la cabeza y cara, anchura de la cabeza, alzada de la cruz, anchura de la grupa, diámetro longitudinal, dorso esternal y bicostal, longitud de la grupa, perímetro de la caña y tórax. Adicionalmente, se registró el peso vivo de los animales. Se estimaron los coeficientes de correlación de Pearson. Los resultados mostraron que existe una correlación positiva entre los rasgos morfométricos corporales y el peso vivo de los animales. Las correlaciones entre el peso vivo de los animales y los rasgos morfológicos de la glándula mamaria fueron bajas para la anchura de inserción posterior de la ubre y el ligamento suspensor de la ubre; y para los demás rasgos no fueron significativas. Este estudio sugiere que la población de cabras Motilona presenta un alto grado de homogeneidad en sus rasgos y su estructura morfológica es apropiada para la producción de leche.
