Currently, internal combustion engines face the challenge of reducing fuel consumption and reducing polluting emissions due to their significant impact on the environment. Therefore, it is necessary to use tools that allow us to evaluate the operating characteristics of this type of thermal machines. In the present investigation, the development of a virtual bench was proposed for the analysis of the behavior and performance characteristics of an internal combustion engine for use as a learning tool in higher education students. From the results obtained, it could be demonstrated that the pressure curves of the combustion chamber and the rate of heat release obtained by means of the virtual bench presented a high concordance with the experimental records. The maximum deviation obtained was 5% and 15% for the pressure curve and the heat release rate. Comparing the performance parameters of the brake specific fuel consumption of the engine and energy efficiency, a maximum deviation of 2.96% was shown compared to the real engine. In general, the virtual development bank can describe the behavior of the engine, allowing the characterization of physical phenomena, as well as evaluating the effect of auxiliary technologies such as turbo-compression systems.

At present, in order to mitigate the environmental impact of internal combustion machines and to increase their efficiency, it is necessary to carry out thermodynamic studies to predict their mechanical, thermal, and environmental behavior under different operational conditions. Within the thermodynamic modeling of thermal machines, it is necessary to carry out a process of characterization of the device under study. This article proposes a methodology for the characterization of 4JJ1 Isuzu Diesel engines applying combustion diagnosis, where the pressure signal in the combustion chamber is input, which is measured experimentally based on the angle of the crankshaft and how Exit the heat release curve. A motored procedure, in which the heat transfer process has been adjusted to the combustion chamber walls of the engine under study, has been performed. With this characterization, it has been verified that the change in 10% of the heat transfer adjustment coefficient in the chamber leads to a maximum change of 0.8% in the heat release rate through a sensitivity analysis of the developed model. The mass retained at the closing of the admission has a more pronounced effect, where a 10% change in this variable causes a 4.2% change in the heat release rate. A 10% change in the compression ratio has been observed, causing a maximum change of 6.1% in the heat release rate. Changes in the constants for piezoelectric transducer measurement, pressure level reference and crank angle measurement result in less than 5% change in maximum heat release rate values estimated by the diagnostic model.

En este artículo se analiza la reacción de combustión entre el combustible (ACPM) y comburente(AIRE) que ocurre al interior de la cámara de combustión de una caldera piro tubular empleando el software Ansys® y seleccionando el método fluent (CFD) [2], siendo el indicado para simular fluidos en procesos de combustión. Se realizó un estudio del comportamiento de la temperatura y presión a través de la longitud total de la cámara de combustión y a su vez las fracciones molares y másicas de los productos resultantes de la combustión CO2,O2, N2 Y H20. Los resultados de las variables fueron comparados con el desarrollo de un modelo matemático implementado en la herramienta Simulink®, teniendo en cuenta las mismas condiciones y el combustible ACPM.

In this study, a comparison between the use of hydrogen and a mixture of ethylene-hydrogen-acetylene as fuels is made in order to evaluate the characteristics of the detonation wave in a rotating detonation combustor. For the experimental development, an annular combustor, which has been connected to a supply of air, fuel, and hydrogen, has been used. The air and the type of fuel have been injected separately into the combustion chamber. The measurement of key parameters involves the use of ionization probes and pressure sensors, which have been located in the body of the combustion chamber. The results obtained indicate that hydrogen can reach an average pressure in the detonation wave 37% higher compared to the fuel mixture (ethylene-hydrogen-acetylene). For hydrogen, the equivalency ratio range is 38% higher compared to the fuel mixture. Therefore, the use of fuel mixtures is in a more limited operating range. The study of the detonation wave velocity indicates that the mixture of fuel and hydrogen can reach 68% and 93% of its ideal wave detonation velocity. However, in terms of height, both types of fuels reach a wave height of 30 mm. In general, hydrogen has characteristics that are more favourable in its detonation wave.
