Development of random thinking: Reflections and considerations

This article discloses some considerations and reflections in the teaching of random thinking and data systems based on a documentary review. A documentary sample was used consisting of 40 documentary sources (articles, postgraduate dissertations and books), published in indexed journals, about random thinking. The research was based on a qualitative content analysis method which used the coding and categories saturation process. The results let us establish conceptual relationships considering three dimensions linked to the random thinking teaching, they are: epistemological corpus, theoretical corpus and the social function. The results allow to base new proposals of curricular, didactic and evaluative type for the teaching of this thinking, at the same time, it allows to carry out processes of self-assessment of the teaching practice and of the need that currently exists before the research in the classroom and the contextualization of mathematical knowledge.

In this article we present results of research whose objective was to analyze experiences in the growth of plants such as the Duranta and Salvia where the student develops competences in posing and solving problems that allowed him to argue, model, communicate on mathematics in improvement of their academic performance. The methodology followed a quantitative approach, field-type experimental design, applied to a sample of 180 students of engineering programs. Results: 95% of the students remained in the course, 99% scored above the general institutional average in integral calculus. Conclusion: Application in plant growth allowed to develop competences in raising and solving problems, development of mathematical thinking, analyzing variables and changes in a time, modeling situations; argue, represent entities. The use of blogs allowed the generation of new methods of study, and different forms of evaluation and evaluation of learning, both for students and teachers.

This research reveals the perspectives in the teaching of numerical thinking through a documentary review. The representation of physical elements such as functions, vectors and operators, and their subsequent interpretation through numerical thinking gives meaning to the physical quantities that such elements represent. A documentary sample integrated for 40 sources on numerical thinking such as articles published in indexed journals, postgraduate dissertations, and books is considered. A qualitative content analysis method is used. First, an encoding procedure is applied for tagging the extracted information from the source documents. Then, a split and merge procedure is considered in order to establish from the tags the dimensions and categories that allow determining the conceptual relationships that support the developmental perspectives of numerical thinking. The method reveals that the numerical thinking can be developed in the global context from four perspectives, namely, historical, theoretical, curricular, and social perspectives. From these results, an incorporation of the such perspectives can be institutionalized for promoting curricular, didactic and evaluative new proposals for numerical thinking teaching.

El presente artículo tiene el objetivo de analizar la influencia del uso de tecnologías digitales, particularmente, de software de geometría dinámica, acompañado de una didáctica en la concepción y solución de problemas aplicados, en un enfoque de enseñanza activa, en temas de optimización. La metodología siguió un enfoque cualitativo, se desarrolló a partir de taller con profesores, en el cual se resolvieron problemas en el contexto de máximos y mínimos de forma analítica y dinámica mediante el software geogebra. Resultados señalan la necesidad de implementar secuencias didácticas que guíen al a la concepción de optimización, la herramienta motiva la fase de enseñanza al permitir la simulación, modifica heurísticas y formas de solucionar un problema. Conclusión: la tecnología digital es factor motivante en la enseñanza, permite la visualización de representaciones de objetos matemáticos de manera dinámica, ayuda a la conceptualización si y solo si se apoya de secuencias didácticas.

Improving the technological properties of a ceramic product without affecting its aesthetic quality is a daily challenge of the regional ceramic companies. To achieve this objective, analyzes were performed on an illitic-kaolinitic clay by adding corundum as an additive. The corundum content varied from 5% to 20% by weight with a particle size of less than 75 μm, being able to obtain products with low porosities and high mechanical resistance. This research is part of a series of studies carried out on an argillaceous raw material from the region of Norte de Santander (Colombia). The influence of the corundum content on the technological properties was evaluated. The results showed that corundum, when mixed with traditional raw materials, offers the conditions to be used as an additive in the production of ceramic products with increases of up to 67% in mechanical strength and a reduction of porosity of 46%, which can contribute to the development of value-added ceramic products for use in other technological applications.

The objective of the article is to evaluate emotional intelligence in the initial teacher training of the mathematics bachelor program at the "Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander", San José de Cúcuta, Colombia. The methodology is framed in the qualitative approach with some complementary aspects of the quantitative approach, the applied technique is the interview and the trait meta-mood scale instrument. The results describe that the impacts of integrating the emotive dimension in the learning strategies of mathematics is a greater resilience in the teachers in formation, since thanks to the contact with their emotions through introspection and reflection they manage to draw plans and alternatives that help them to devote more time, ask more and study better, especially in those aspects that cause them difficulty.

Energy optimization of industrial steam boiler using energy performance indicator

This article shows the application of an energy management system and the calculation of energy efficiency indicators to a pyrotubular boiler, following the guidelines of the ISO50001 standard. The actual energy consumption indicators, the theoretical consumption index, the energy baseline and the efficiency index 100 were evaluated based on gas consumption and steam production data. As for the savings measure, a 20% reduction in gas consumption can be achieved by reducing the operational variability equivalent to 186,633 m3/month, thereby achieving a monthly savings of $70,920,717 COP and a large reduction in natural gas equivalent to a reduction in CO2 emissions (1,318,739.05 kg CO2/month). Also, the purges currently recorded in the boiler are higher than the recommended value for this equipment, and the excess air released varies between 6% and 11%, increasing the losses due to sensible heat. Three main implementations were applied to improve the energy performance of the steam boiler. The first saving implementation was the reduction of the generation pressure from 250 to 180 psig, achieving a lower gas temperature with a reduction of heat losses from the boiler, pipes and steam leakage losses, achieving a saving of 2% of the average natural gas consumption. The second implementation was the automation of the boiler purges, in accordance with the recommended value UNE-9075/85, achieving a total saving of 0.66%, and the third measurement allows on-line correction of the combustion air by direct measurement of O2, which maintains the measured oxygen value at 3%, which is the recommended value. With this practical and novel method energy performance indicator on the boiler, was increased the performance of the equipment, as well as the production costs and environmental impact reduction.

Lo que se presenta a continuación es un estudio basado en una metodología teórica documental que tiene como objetivo principal describir la relación que existe entre el entorno social y el bienestar emocional de los adultos mayores. En el desarrollo del artículo se define lo que es entorno social y bienestar emocional, así como se muestran las características que describen la etapa evolutiva de la vejez, edad adulta tardía o tercera edad, con la finalidad de mostrar la relación que existe entre cada una de esas definiciones. Los adultos mayores viven una etapa del desarrollo evolutivo determinada por el declive natural de las condiciones físicas, biológicas, intelectuales y psicoemocionales, lo cual es propio de las personas después de los 65 años, sin embargo, es necesario asumirlo desde la perspectiva de vejez positiva. Para ello es necesario conscienciar el potencial indiscutible de estímulo externo que posee el entorno social del adulto mayor para crear las condiciones objetivas y subjetivas que hagan de este momento vital una etapa satisfactoria.

La resolución de problemas es un área crítica en la enseñanza de las matemáticas debido a que el estudiante tiene que poner en juego conceptos, habilidades, procedimientos y estrategias para tener éxito. El presente escrito, muestra la caracterización de los tipos de errores matemáticos en el conocimiento procedimental que evidencia un grupo de estudiantes cuando resuelve problemas de superficies cuadráticas en Cálculo Vectorial. El trabajo tuvo como referente la teoría de dos estadios: la traducción y la solución de Mayer para resolver problemas y la clasificación de errores según Rico L. El estudio fue de tipo exploratorio y descriptivo. Para la recolección de información se diseñó y aplicó un cuestionario específico con preguntas de respuesta cerradas y abiertas. Entre los principales hallazgos se resalta que el 32% de los participantes utiliza equivocadamente los datos presentes en el enunciado, el 56% comete errores algebraicos, el 41% representa erróneamente la gráfica correspondiente, el 26% dejó en blanco la representación gráfica, el 44% utiliza teoremas o definiciones deformadas y el 60% se equivoca verificando la solución hallada. Lo anterior ratifica la importancia que tiene el conocimiento procedimental en la resolución de problemas independientemente de los factores o causas que los pueden haber originado, motivando a docentes del área en la búsqueda de soluciones a este tipo de dificultad, utilizando el error como fuente de las actividades de enseñanza.

The analysis of dynamic systems is a topic of great interest in the basic sciences since it allows direct inference of the behavior of different systems. The study of physical phenomena provides large databases that, if recorded at regular time intervals, constitute time series. However, time series of geophysical data in many cases present missing data and their estimation requires the application of valid methods that allow estimating reliable information to complete the series since some analysis methods require these series to be complete. Two methods are used in this article to estimate the missing values of the precipitation series in the city of San José de Cúcuta, Colombia, the first one consists of considering the univariate data series and applying an adjustment of the sequential conditional expectation method of forecasting with restrictions, the second one refers to analyze the data series of a nearby station and through multivariate methods establish the cointegration between the series, and then use this as a basis for estimating the missing data in the analysis series. The two methods are recursive, a first estimation of the model is made ignoring the missing data, an initial estimation of the missing data is made, then a new estimation of the model parameters and a new estimation of the missing data is made, the algorithm continues running with the new values replacing the values estimated in the previous phase until the difference of the estimated values between successive iterations is less than a value fixed beforehand. Finally, a comparison is made between the estimates made by the two methods.

El artículo tiene como objetivo determinar la relación existente entre la estrategia organizacional y la adopción de prácticas saludables en las organizaciones de salud de la Región Caribe Colombiana. Para ello se buscó identificar la tipología de estrategia de mayor prevalencia en la organización objeto de estudio y analizar las prácticas saludables en instituciones del sector salud. La investigación se enmarcó en un enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo, diseño correlacional. Para estudiar dicha relación, se llevó a cabo un trabajo de campo en empresas de salud tomando como muestra a 134 empleados de estas organizaciones. Resultados: se observó que la adopción de prácticas saludables relacionadas con planes de desarrollo, empleados y medio ambiente no tuvo una relación estadísticamente significativa con la estrategia; variables comunidad, compradores y vendedores, si tuvieron una relación estadísticamente significativa con la estrategia. Conclusión: relaciones entre planificación de carácter estratégico en una empresa, no se implementan en prácticas saludables en las organizaciones.

Es relevante en el proceso de adaptación escolar colombiano con los estudiantes migrantes de la zona de frontera del corregimiento de la parada, identificar los factores que influyen en su inteligencia emocional. La investigación considero resaltar los factores que influyen en la inteligencia emocional como atención o percepción, comprensión y regulación del ser humano. Por consiguiente, se aplicó el cuestionario como herramienta de estudio la escala TMMS-24, de Salovey y Mayer1 , con un diseño descriptivo cuantitativo, muestra migrantes. Por lo tanto, la educación colombiana tiene el compromiso de orientar a los educandos. Resultados: un 60% de los estudiantes migrantes tienen la percepción o atención y un 40% siente ansiedad e inseguridad al vivir en otro país. Se evidenció que en el factor de claridad emocional un 80% de los estudiantes comprende sus sentimientos y razona emocionalmente. Los resultados demuestran que un 50% tiene dificultades en regular o reparar los estados emocionales correctamente, En conclusión, los factores que presentan dificultad son los de atención o percepción, así como el factor reparación o regulación de las emociones, dado que representan otra cultura y normatividad en ámbito social – educativo Colombiano.

The increase in the world population has caused cities to grow vertically, increasing the amount of high-rise buildings, which is why there is a need to develop building materials with greater efficiency, that is, resistant and with less density to the conventional. The objective is to analyze the mechanical behavior of buildings with portico system when being designed with lightweight concrete mixtures made with thermally expanded clay from materials in the San José de Cúcuta metropolitan area, Colombia. Eight structural models were made using the finite element method with the Etabs® software, varying the building height and the concrete type that was used, in order to compare the properties and lightweight concrete characteristics contrasted with the conventional concrete. The modeled buildings were located on land with a capacity of 200 KPa and residential use. The San José de Cúcuta city is located on an area of high seismic threat according to the Colombian construction of resistant earthquake. It was determined that lightweight concrete manufactured with materials from the San José de Cúcuta metropolitan area, Colombia, is structural since it has a compressive strength at 28 days of 26 MPa on average and equilibrium density of 1646.16 Kg/m3 complying with the requirements minimums required by the Colombian regulation of resistant earthquake construction for a concrete to be considered light and structural. It was found that when using lightweight structural concrete in the design of joists and slabs, there is a 10% decrease in dead loads that reach the foundations of the structure, which implies a reduction in the dimensions of the foundations.

El artículo tiene como objetivo identificar los factores asociados al rendimiento académico en estudiantes adultos, en módulos de matemáticas y estadística. Se realizó un estudio cuantitativo correlacional en una muestra de 80 estudiantes con edades superiores a 30 años. Un grupo de factores de aspectos institucionales, socio-demográficos, psicosociales y pedagógicos se emplearon como variables independientes. Resultados indican que el estilo de aprendizaje asociado a tipo de inteligencia, conciencia de déficit asociada a capacidad de abstracción y motivación de la familia predicen niveles mas altos de rendimiento constituyéndose en variables explicativas. Conclusión: tipo y estilo de aprendizaje, tipo de inteligencia, motivación, conciencia de déficit son factores asociados al rendimiento en adultos.

El enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo, muestreo no probabilístico e intencional con 100 migrantes y la aplicación de un cuestionario de factores psicosociales asociados al bienestar de migrantes de Javier Murillo y Fernando Molero. El análisis de resultado mostrò que el factor de prejuicio percibido por parte del migrante es poco agradable y se encuentran estigmatizados en la zona de frontera por diversas cuestiones económicas y sociales, siendo asistencialistas para poder sobrevivir en la crisis; seguidamente, el segundo factor la discriminación es percibida como delincuentes; en el tercer factor, la identidad de nacionalidad, se reconocen como venezolanos y se le dificulta la economía colombiana. En el cuarto factor, la satisfacción con la vida muestra poca a un nuevo proyecto de vida; el quinto factor autoestima se encuentran con sentimientos de tristeza, por estar lejos de su familia y por último bienestar material percibido en los migrantes una muestra pequeña reconoce el apoyo de Colombia. Conclusiones: los migrantes se enfrentan a diversas problemáticas sociales como la aculturación, integración, discriminación y aceptación es importante el apoyo psicosocial a los migrantes a travès de un grupo interdisciplinario para fortalecer el proyecto de vida.

Factors associated with learning physics in the elderly

The research aims to identify the factors associated with learning physics in older students. A quantitative investigation is carried out with a field-type factorial analysis method, correlational in a sample of 80 physics students, university students over 30 years of age, who apply science, technology, art and physics through designs and simulations in vector fields, perceptual geo-materializations and electrical physics. The research used as a technique the metacognitive skills inventory test (α = 0.82), the educational motivation scale (α = 0.71), the Tennessee self-concept scale (α = 0.725), the psychological well-being scale adult (α = 0.75) and the social skills scale (α = 0.801). The results show that variables associated with the learning of physics in elderly were the extrinsic motivation index, the motivation intrinsic and demotivating; the active, reflective, theoretical and pragmatic learning style; performance variables, level of learning, spatial reasoning and sensitivity. The results obtained indicate an acceptable fit in the proposed model (X2 = 652.55/gl = 3.05), GFI (goodness of fit index) = 0.894, AGFI (corrected goodness of fit index) = 0.848, RMSEA (mean square approximation error) = 0.09, IFI (incremental adjustment index) = 0.930. The explained variance is 31.9% regarding learning style, 38.8% regarding motivation and 15.1% regarding cognitive score and 15.1% regarding consciousness deficit. It is concluded that the predictive factors of learning of physics in older adults were learning style, motivation indices, cognitive score and consciousness deficit.

Five Steps for Process Development under the Energy Sustainability Criteria

Considering that sustainability criteria play a fundamental role in the control and efficient operation of production processes, this article presents five fundamental steps based on the benefits of an Integrated Energy Management System. The five steps formulated for the development of processes under a sustainable development approach are based on measures for the rational use of energy that seek both environmental and economic benefits, if these savings measures are applied in the respective production process. The results obtained from the application of the five steps to a company of the product sector in Colombia, resulted in an additional benefit such as increased energy control of the production process. The article shows in detail how to establish the Baseline, evaluate the consumption trend, quantify emission reductions, economically quantify savings, and evaluate the energy control of the production process with a view to the sustainable operation of industrial processes. The main contribution of this article is the development of a systematic tool based on performance indicators and historical operational information of the process to achieve a sustainable and environmentally friendly operation of any company that implements it.

Imaginarios de universidad en jóvenes con limitaciones auditivas

El artículo tiene como objeto presentar imaginarios identificados sobre universidad, las permanencias de los discursos de jóvenes que cursan estudios en instituciones de educación básica y media y su imbricada relación con los imaginarios sociales, perspectiva desde la cual se hace un análisis crítico de los abordajes al respecto, en tanto se asumen desde las superficialidades de los imaginarios segundos o subyacentes, razón que dificulta su comprensión y posibilidad de proyección. Se propone una salida que considera comprender los imaginarios que hacen posible la universidad, buscando aquellos instituyentes que validan imaginarios instituidos por lo social, desde los cuales se edifiquen acuerdos sobre universidad. La población estudio la constituyen 10 estudiantes sordos, de grado once, con edades comprendidas entre 16 y 19 años. Resultados: estudiantes han ido construyendo en su historia de vida, significaciones sobre la universidad, devenidas de las muchas influencias y, con gran fuerza, oficialmente instituidas. Conclusión: la construcción social de universidad está definida para los jóvenes con limitaciones auditivas, por escenarios simbólicos, instituidos desde lo social, pero con criterio de acción bajo, al constituirse en una ilusión en su proyecto de vida, una expresión en que logran definir las formas de actuar en una sociedad que en el ámbito universitario aún no les incluye.

Impact of learning styles on multiple intelligences in first semester math students

The objective of this research was to determine the incidence between learning styles and multiple intelligences in students in the first semester of their degree in Mathematics at the Francisco de Paula Santander University in the second semester of 2019. The study is an exploratory, descriptive correlational design, with a sample of 33 students; Horney Alonso's learning styles and multiple intelligences questionnaires were used. It was determined that 45.5% of students have a high preference for reflective learning styles and 33.33% for mathematical logical intelligence. When the chi-square test was carried out, it showed a significance of 0.223, that is, the variables have a low level of association. On the other hand, this is confirmed by Spearman's correlation test with a significance level of 0.242, which concludes that the variables of this research are not very associated.
