El objetivo de investigación fue evaluar la relación entre el rendimiento académico en matemáticas y el éxito escolar en estudiantes de educación superior. La investigación siguió un enfoque cuantitativo, descriptivo-comparativo y microsociológico. Los datos provinieron de fuentes primarias. La recolección de datos fue transeccional y la muestra fue de 1500 estudiantes. Se utilizó la escala de resiliencia de Wagnild y Young. Los resultados muestran que hay una relación importante entre el nivel de exigencia, la aplicación de las matemáticas, la abstracción y el rendimiento académico. Los estudiantes desarrollan habilidades emocionales de resiliencia que les permiten mejorar su calidad de vida. En conclusión, la resiliencia se relaciona significativamente con todas las fortalezas del carácter, así como con la aceptación positiva del cambio y con la competencia personal. Se identificó que, si bien la resiliencia ayuda a los estudiantes a ser más tolerantes y a comprender mejor lo que sucede en el entorno, es precisamente en esos desafíos donde se manifiestan las fortalezas que les brindan un alto desempeño educativo. Los estudiantes exitosos demuestran habilidades de pensamiento formal, pensamiento creativo, aplicación de la matemática y resiliencia, las cuales inciden en su calidad de vida

Social skills of physics students in the mathematics degree program

The research had as objective to identify the social skills of first semester students of the mathematics program of Universidad Francisco de Paula Santander, Colombia, assigned in the subject of physics I, with a sample of 21 participants between 17 and 21 years old of the stratum 1 and 2, from which only 4.8% of the students work and study, the remaining 95.2% only study. 57% of the participants are women and 47% men, it is also evident that they currently reside in San José de Cúcuta, Colombia, the research under the positivist paradigm with a quantitative approach of quasi-experimental design of descriptive type, were applied: the questionnaire of the scale of social skills, and test of attitudes in physics which is constructed by 50 items that classify the social skills in 6 groups and 20 items in the test of physical attitude with a reliability in the alpha index of 0. 79 The statistical software SPSS version 23 was used for data analysis and the Google form tool for data collection.

The objective of this research was to create a structural model able to explain the profile of student leaders during their youth stage, by implementing the pedagogical model form national university organization, in order to develop skills from a cognitive approach using an event-based learning trend. The research had a quantitative methodological approach, addressing differences in the students' cognitive abilities for oral expression and textual production, along with a correlational method of factorial design analysis, as a field type. The beneficiary population was made up of students from private educational institutions with an average age of 17 years. According to the model, it was found that among the factors associated with leadership are, the ability to lobby, strategies, critical reading, intensity of the debate, discourse analysis, quality of presentation, decision making, characteristics that determine the profile of a ruler.

The automobile is the main means of transportation in most cities of the world, however, its excessive use has generated several environmental and social problems, one of them is the lack of control over parking on public roads, affecting vehicle traffic, disturbing the image of the city, increasing the rate of accidents and causing negative effects on the mood of drivers and pedestrians. There are different alternatives to reduce these indicators, highlighting the effectiveness of the implementation of parking meter systems, which seek to regulate parking on public roads through a fee and a time limit. This article demonstrates the design, feasibility and impact (economic, social and environmental) of an implementation of the parking meter system in the center of the city of San José de Cúcuta, Colombia, with data from the Secretariat of Transit of the metropolitan area of the city of San José de Cúcuta, Colombia and the national institute of roads, achieving a solution to the problem of traffic congestion in the city and also contributing to create citizen culture among its inhabitants.

The need to improve people's living conditions starts from the reality of the durability of rural road constructions, which have a short useful life and have a negative impact on the inhabitants of these regions. This project aims to improve access to rural areas, rural economic development and thus improve the quality of life of people in the sector; taking into account that at the moment of building a rural road, has a better resistance and durability in time, this was done by analyzing the properties of the clay mixture of low plasticity in the dosage of soil-cement that were tested by tests to determine the liquid limit of soils, determination of the plastic limit, plasticity index, moisture test, classification of soil by sieving, granulometric analysis, unit weight-humidity relations in soils, soil support relationship in the laboratory; in order to find the best dosage that provides greater strength, long-term durability and risk reduction. The results indicate that this type of clay requires an improvement with cement, due to its bearing capacity of 2% and 4%, which gives it a very poor quality to be used in the construction of rural roads.

An experimental investigation was made in search of the improvement of the material used for the conformation of the subgrade in pavements. Three separate excavations were carried out 150 m apart in a 510 m stretch located in the Guayabal environmental technology park in the city of San José de Cúcuta, Colombia. In each excavation 2 samples were taken at depths of 0.50 m and 1 m. The soil samples extracted were analyzed in accordance with the regulations of the "Instituto Nacional de Vías" of Colombia in its update of 2013. It was collected material, not superior to 20 mm, of biosanitary residues treated by the Ecosterile machine series 250C located in the environmental technological park Guayabal. Five experimental mixtures were carried out partially substituting 2%, 6%, 8%, 10% and 14% of the weight of the excavated soil with treated biosanitary residues, random percentages taken as initial reference in the experimentation due to the characteristics of the substitute material. The California bearing ratio test was performed on experimental mixtures whose data were tabulated and compared with those obtained in similar tests carried out on the material conventionally used for the improvement of the subgrade in pavements according to Colombian regulations. The tests provided interesting information that concluded in the substitution of 2% of the conventional material to improve the performance of the subgrade in the intervened section, a value that obtained better results in the California bearing ratio test, yielding 79.2% with respect to the result obtained by the conventional material. The exposed results are convenient for the economy of road projects due to the partial substitution of traditional material by residual material, at the same time the use of a hospital waste is implemented as construction material, bringing with it positive environmental and social benefits as far as its final disposition.

The wave movements can be studied from autonomous work done by the student since they are processes in which he can appreciate and understand how the transmission of energy from one part to another without transfer of matter is. Problem-based learning constitutes a good alternative to study the concept of waves since it sequentially leads the student to structure the knowledge to use it in the context, to develop effective processes of reasoning, to develop self-directed learning skills and to motivate him/her to learn, together with the development of the capacity to work in a team and it favors the development of the mathematical physical thought. The research is developed from the multi-method methodological approach developing in-depth interviews to teachers and knowledge tests to students with the purpose of establishing both pre-knowledge and initial situations for structuring the pedagogical intervention and the evaluation of its results. The pedagogical intervention is structured on a quasi-experimental design in which the strategy of problem-based learning is applied to the teaching and learning of physics and is compared with the traditional methodology. The research allows us to conclude that applying the problem-based learning methodology to physics teaching, we obtain better educational yields than with traditional teaching, while it generates a greater motivation and a greater interest in learning. It also allows the student to integrate the knowledge into his or her context, visualize the usefulness of learning and apply knowledge to the solution of problems in his or her environment, in other words, it allows the student to achieve significant learning and therefore a development of mathematical physical thinking.

This paper presents a thermo-economic analysis of a simple organic Rankine cycle (SORC) as a waste heat recovery (WHR) systems of a 2 MW stationary gas engine evaluating different working fluids. Initially, a systematic methodology was implemented to select three organic fluids according to environmental and safety criteria, as well as critical system operational conditions. Then, thermodynamic, exergy, and exergo-economic models of the system were developed under certain defined considerations, and a set of parametric studies are presented considering key variables of the system such as pump efficiency, turbine efficiency, pinch point condenser, and evaporator. The results show the influence of these variables on the combined power of the system (gas engine plus ORC), ORC exergetic efficiency, specific fuel consumption (∆BSFC), and exergo indicators such as the payback period (PBP), levelized cost of energy (LCOE), and the specific investment cost (SIC). The results revealed that heat transfer equipment had the highest exergy destruction cost rates representing 81.25% of the total system cost. On the other hand, sensitivity analyses showed that acetone presented better energetic and exergetic performance when the efficiency of the turbine, evaporator, and condenser pinch point was increased. However, toluene was the fluid with the best results when pump efficiency was increased. In terms of the cost of exergy destroyed by equipment, the results revealed that acetone was the working fluid that positively impacted cost reduction when pump efficiency was improved; and toluene, when turbine efficiency was increased. Finally, the evaporator and condenser pinch point increased all the economic indicators of the system. In this sense, the working fluid with the best performance in economic terms was acetone, when the efficiency of the turbine, pinch condenser, and pinch evaporator was enhanced

Thixotropy is a distinctively rheological (time-dependent) phenomenon, which is found in many complex materials, especially colloidal systems as fine-grained soils. Clays are materials that can recover their initial strength after remoulding. The estimation of such recovering allows optimising the designs of geotechnical structures and then reducing the construction costs. This paper presents the results of a study that evaluates the thixotropy phenomenon of clayey soils. The work methodology involved an experimental plan composed of five phases: (i) extraction of samples; (ii) physical and mechanical characterisation of the undisturbed samples; (iii) remoulding of samples after testing; (iv) storage of remoulded samples; and (v) evaluation of undrained shear strength recovering for 0, 15, 30, and 60 days after remoulding. Undisturbed samples were collected using Shelby tube from the municipality of Madrid, near Bogotá, in Colombia. Results were analysed in terms of sensitivity degree because this parameter allows estimating the shear strength recovering. Findings show that clayey soils from lacustrine deposits of Bogota high plateau do not loss completely all of their original mechanical properties after remoulding and exhibit a medium sensitive behaviour. Conclusions indicate there is a recovering of undrained shear strength along the time, in which the samples will recover their original state about one year after remoulding.

Esta investigación se ha propuesto evaluar las relaciones entre los elementos que intervienen en el proceso de aprendizaje de ecuaciones diferenciales de primer orden, antes y después de la incorporación de herramientas tecnológicas de apoyo. Se sigue un diseño de estudio descriptivo donde se determina la importancia de la tecnología en el aula de clase y cómo esta puede llegar a generar un cambio de actitud en los estudiantes. La muestra estuvo conformada por 40 estudiantes en edades entre 18 y 23 años. El instrumento de recolección de información consistió en una escala de actitudes que se aplicó al inicio y final del experimento. Los resultados muestran que el uso de las TIC como instrumento mediador, produce un cambio de actitudes positivas y favorables hacia las aplicaciones de las ecuaciones diferenciales de primer orden, apoyando la adquisición de conocimientos, logrando estimular la creatividad de los estudiantes y contribuyendo en el diseño de nuevas estrategias metodológicas en el ámbito de la Educación Superior.

El artículo presenta la validez y fiabilidad de instrumento para medir la calidad de las asesorías académicas CALA, utilizando dimensiones del modelo de calidad de servicio servqual. Su objetivo es evaluar la percepción de la calidad de asesorías académicas a través de plataforma virtual en instituciones de educación básica. La metodología sigue estudio descriptivo de validación de escalas multidimensionales, diseño cuasi-experimental, técnica análisis factorial. La muestra estuvo constituida por 1117 estudiantes de instituciones de educación básica, con edad promedio de 9.6 años. Resultados: 24 indicadores en dimensiones satisfacción en disponibilidad de contenidos-recursos didácticos, seguimiento-retroalimentación, accesibilidad, comodidad-confort, consistencia interna adecuada α=0.9 (Conbrach, 1951), coeficiente de correlación intraclase global 0.8 (IC del 95%, 0.78-0.82) e índices de Kappa (Cohen, 1960), superiores a 0.78 muestra alto acuerdo entre expertos.

El artículo presenta la validez y fiabilidad del instrumento CREA, cuyo objetivo es medir el aprendizaje creativo de estudiantes que cursan programas académicos de pregrado en el municipio de Cúcuta, Colombia. Sigue un diseño de estudio descriptivo de validación de escalas multidimensionales a través de análisis factorial, validez de constructo, y facial. La población estudio la constituyen 23564 estudian tes de programas de pregrado ofertados por universidades del municipio de San José de Cúcuta, constituida la muestra por 595 estudiantes con edades comprendidas entre 18 y 25 años. Se obtuvo una escala de 35 ítems. El análisis factorial arrojó dimensiones de práctica pedagógica orientada al liderazgo, pensamiento creativo, satisfacción emocional, independencia, actitud creativa, productividad, competencias en liderazgo, motivación; la consistencia interna fue adecuada (alfa de Cronbach 0,72-0,95), coeficiente de correlación intraclase global de 0,967 (IC del 95 %, 0,933-0,984), promedio de diferencias en sumatoria de ítems -1,3 (DS: 8,5) e índices de Kappa superiores a 0,9, lo cual muestran un alto acuerdo entre expertos. Se concluye que CREA es un instrumento válido y confiable para el contexto Cúcuta, Colombia.

The article presents the validity and reliability of the MICRORUBRI instrument based on rubrics, with problems applied to engineering that allow analyzing situations in real context, as well as the generation, visualization of surfaces, planes and vectors; its objective is to evaluate the development of competences in vector calculus in students who are enrolled in undergraduate engineering programs in the Municipality of Cúcuta, Colombia. It follows a design of descriptive study of validation of multidimensional scales through factorial analysis, construct validity, and facial. The study population was students of undergraduate programs of engineering, administration and agricultural sciences with ages between 17 and 20 years in the city of Cúcuta, Colombia, constituted the sample by 500 students. Results: A scale of 35 items was obtained. The factor analysis revealed dimensions of pedagogical practice oriented to leadership, creative thinking, emotional satisfaction, independence, creative attitude, productivity, leadership competencies, motivation; internal consistency was adequate (Cronbach alpha 0.72 – 0.95), global intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.97, average differences in sum of items -1.2 (SD: 7.5) and Kappa indexes higher than 0.9, shows high agreement among experts. Conclusion: MICRORUBRI is a valid and reliable instrument to evaluate the development of competences.
