El objetivo del presente estudio, está centrado en localizar las causas que originaron la falla por fatiga en el eje conductor de la bomba Hillman 250B MTB doble tornillo para el despacho de crudo. El eje tuvo fractura en el cuñero cerca de la zona de cambio de sección debido a malos procedimientos ingenieriles sin tener en cuenta los cálculos de diseño. Por esta razón, se realizó un análisis de causa raíz con el cual se demostró que el cuñero estaba mal diseñado, y de esta manera poder establecer las variables que influyeron en la falla. Luego de obtener esta información, se procedió a realizar el análisis del diseño óptimo del cuñero, igualmente el rediseño del concentrador de esfuerzo para evitar futuras fallas, mediante un análisis de fatiga, fuerzas pares y diagramas de esfuerzos cortante para materiales dúctiles del cual estaba fabricado, con lo que se determinó la vida del eje. Además, se efectuó el modelamiento por medio de elementos finitos para determinar el estado de los esfuerzos. Asimismo con los resultados obtenidos poder presentar los planes de acción para evitar futuras fallas tempranas en los sistemas de bombeo principales para el despacho de crudo en las empresas del sector petrolero.

This work describes each of the parameters for the design of a prototype of an automated machine to make cuts in different types of cheese, in cubic form and slices. Each mechanical and structural component is designed, analyzed and calculated, with the implementation of a compression mechanism with power screw, simulating its operation in the SolidWorks Computer Aided Design (CAD) program, the equipment and accessories that constitute the control system for the automation of the prototype are selected, the programming of the Programmable Logical Control (PLC) in ladder language is carried out. Finally, the operation of the prototype is demonstrated through modeling and simulation with the use of the NI LabVIEW Softmotion module that allows integration with SolidWorks, making the application that involves some components of the prototype and controlling its movements from NI LabVIEW.

Numerous research works have studied the stress distribution in sections with geometric discontinuities and the relationship with the theoretical factor of stress concentration using the finite element method. These works have dealt with topics such as the influence of the length of pieces on the 𝐾�𝑡� factor in rectangular orthotropic plates; The behavior of the stress concentration factor on short shafts with section changes under bending loads; The theoretical factor of stress concentration in flat parts subjected to tension with "U" grooves; The estimation of the theoretical stress concentration factor 𝐾�𝑡� for a flat plate with two holes subjected to tension loads. Other studies have compared the stress distribution by applying three methods: elasticity theory, finite element analysis and experimental techniques. Results show that the finite element method is effective in solving the problem. The goal of this research is to determine the theoretical stress concentration factor for a flat plate with two holes subjected to bending applying the finite element method. The modeling of the plate, the application of the loads, the mesh generation and the simulation of the stress distribution were made using the software ANSYS® Workbench. Four holes with different sizes were worked and for each of them 10 different values of the distance between centers were taken. In this way the relationship between the factor 𝐾�𝑡�, the size of the holes and the distance between centers was found. This information is of great importance for the design of mechanical elements that are under these conditions.

Building design has often many engineering challenges to achieve the best possible energy and economic efficiencies. It is necessary to use technological tools capable of predicting with a high degree of accuracy the behavior of a pipe network system in order to obtain good designs that avoid problems in the future. This study is focused on the analysis of three pipe networks with different floors and the same configuration on each level. Four case studies have been developed in order to analyze the energy requirements and the outlet pressure of a pump for multiple pipe diameters, various floors, and fluid flow rates. The effects of the pipe diameter and the flow rate on the energy cost have been also analyzed. It has been observed that an increase in the flow rate in a pipeline of one inch of diameter causes a huge increase in the pump power when working on the net with a single floor. In addition, it has been found out that the higher the number of the floors is, the higher the pump powder is. However, this effect has not been significant when using pipelines with high diameters. Besides, it has been found out that the higher the number of the floors is, the higher the pressure drop in the system is. This effect is highly significant when using pipelines with small diameters. The total pump power cost had an exponential decay with the increase in pipe diameter.
