Polya propose the didactic problem-solving strategy to strengthen the teaching and learning processes in the mathematic field. Thus, this strategy can be applied in other fields such as physics teaching the article proposes an evaluation strategy based on the design of a rubric to assess the processes associated with solving mathematical problems, as a classroom research work based on Research, Pedagogical Action. As one of the results, an analytical rubric composed of criteria and indicators associated with the steps of Polya problem solving is proposed, as well as a reflection associated with the teaching of problem solving in the engineering area.

The objective of the V International Meeting on Mathematics Education (V IMME) is to create and maintain a space that privileges and promotes the culture of mathematics, reflection and discussion on the education and application of mathematics, statistics, its history, evolution and didactics, and its interrelation with the sciences. At the meeting, researchers, scientists, and mathematics teachers socialize the results of research, consolidate networks for the exchange of successful experiences, to strengthen mathematics education at different educational levels, promote innovation and encourage the creation of policies, models, educational strategies, tools, and techniques in various areas of mathematics. They also promote innovation and encourage the creation of policies, models, educational strategies, tools and techniques in different areas of knowledge, and foster students' interest in research. This academic space has been maintained, so in the first semester of 2017 the First International Mathematics Education Meeting was held, with the presence and participation of teachers, students and professionals from different university, basic and secondary education institutions. During the Summit, researchers carry out activities such as, master conferences, short lectures. The use of ancestral construction techniques in wood has evolved throughout history, but consequently many species have been disappearing after indiscriminate logging; but the use of renewable materials is what is needed in the present and in the future after the global pollution and the ecological footprint of materials such as iron or concrete, so it is necessary to glimpse new building materials from a renewable approach. To this end, this research focuses on the application of physicochemistry and physics of materials to establish the feasibility of using Attalca Butyracea palm rachis as a sustainable material with a novel application in the field of architecture. For this purpose, a methodology of morphological configuration is applied that appropriates the identification of specific physical properties together with notions of geometry and topology applying the concept of topological stereotomic configuration from the operational tools and morphological actions of the Lucas Períes fold, resulting in a proposal for a topological stereotomic structure applied to the architectural design of buildings in the municipality of Pelaya, Colombia.

Current practice of structural design of reinforced concrete columns uses mainly rectangular and circular sections. Among other reasons, this preference is linked to its ease of construction and spatial efficiency, and the historical inertia of civil works processes. Nowadays, modern design and construction techniques make possible to study the structural beahviour of sections distinctively shaped. If typical sections are extended from circular to elliptical and from rectangular to parallelogram shaped, it is possible to compute mathematical and physical parameters needed for the structural analysis. This work presents a physical–mathematical model to determine the structural efficiency in terms of relative strength and stiffness of sections shaped as ellipses and parallelograms when used in reinforced concrete columns. To solve the model, a Matlab® code for drawing the column interaction diagram of each studied section was written. Each diagram describes, in terms of mechanical physics, the relation between the uniaxial bending and the compression load that defines safety conditions as a mathematical limiting curve. The governing equation has the form P(m, g)=f(M(m, g) in which P describes the axial load strength function, M the bending moment strength function, m the material properties, and g the geometrical characteristics function. Structural efficiency has been expressed as the relative behaviour of each section with respect to comparable rectangular sections. To obtain the results of the model, a Matlab® code was written.

This study investigates an alternative fuel methodology for diesel engines that focus on the influence of ethanol as an additive agent in biodiesel blends derived from the industrial liquid waste of palm oil and sunflower oil residues. Specifically, the study addresses relevant aspects of the combustion performance and emissions characteristics in a single-cylinder diesel engine. For the experimental development, four different fuels were tested: commercial diesel, a blend of biodiesel formed from the residual material of palm oil and sunflower oil (PB3SB2), two blends with an addition of 2%, and 4% ethanol in the biodiesel produced (PB3SB2E2 and PB3SB2E4). The engine operated under nine different operation modes following international testing methodologies. Results indicated that incorporating ethanol in the PB3SB2 biodiesel blend improves thermal efficiency by 0.8%. Increasing the ethanol mixing ratio to 4% provides a further efficiency improvement of up to 1.2%. The emissions analysis showed that the addition of ethanol below 4% in the biodiesel blend facilitates the minimization of pollutant levels of CO, CO2, NOx, HC, and smoke opacity compared to the biodiesel formed by the two residual oils (PB3SB2). Overall, ethanol incorporation reduced emissions levels between 7.5 and 13.87% compared to PB3SB2. In conclusion, integrating biodiesel and ethanol as additive agent emerges as a promising alternative to promote a reliable and sustainable operation in diesel engines.
